What an AVR does

It corrects the incoming supply voltage to within the tolerance the connected equipment needs. Where the supply swings beyond that tolerance, equipment either protects itself by shutting down or degrades, and both outcomes cost more than the regulator.

Selection

The regulator is selected from the measured input voltage range, the connected load and its starting characteristic, the phase configuration, and the output accuracy the equipment requires.
