Choosing branded circuit breakers over unbranded equivalents
What actually differs between a branded breaker and an unbranded one, and why the difference matters at the panel.
The difference is not the plastic
Two breakers of the same rating can look identical and behave very differently. The differences are in the calibration of the trip curve, the quality of the contacts, the breaking capacity actually achieved, and whether the device performs to the standard it claims.
What to verify
That the breaking capacity on the label is the rating you need at that point in the installation
That the device is genuinely from the manufacturer — counterfeits are a real problem in this market
That the trip characteristics match the published curve
That accessories and replacements will still be available in five years
That the device is supplied with traceable documentation
Why this matters in practice
A breaker that trips late lets a fault damage cable and equipment.
A breaker that trips early causes nuisance outages and gets bypassed on site.
A counterfeit device may not trip at all under fault conditions.
Non-standard accessories make later modification expensive.
What we do
We supply breakers through manufacturer channels and provide the documentation needed to verify what was supplied. Where a cheaper equivalent exists we will say so — and we will also say what is being given up.
