ABB Compact Home Series MCB

A miniature circuit breaker range for domestic and light commercial final distribution boards.

What an MCB does

A miniature circuit breaker protects a final circuit against overload and short circuit. It trips on a thermal element for sustained overload and on a magnetic element for a short-circuit current, then can be reset by hand once the fault is cleared.

Where the Compact Home series is used

Domestic distribution boards

Light commercial and shop circuits

Small office and apartment final circuits

Lighting and socket outlet circuits

Choosing the right device

Rated current must suit the cable it protects, not the load alone.

Breaking capacity must exceed the prospective fault current at that point in the installation.

Curve type (B, C or D) must suit the inrush characteristic of the load — motor and lighting loads differ from resistive ones.

Devices are selected so that the upstream protective device backs up the downstream one.

Correct selection matters

The most common cause of nuisance tripping is a device chosen by rating alone, without considering the load characteristic or discrimination with the device upstream. We size breakers against the circuit, not against the catalogue page.
